Together Is Now Streaming, and It Has the Power to Test Your Romantic Bond.

Consider this a dare for those in enduring partnerships who are fans of horror films: Get comfortable with your partner and watch Together. This critically acclaimed 2025 movie just made its launch on a streaming platform on Hulu. Outwardly, it might appear like conventional biological terror, but inside Together lies a deep examination about our choices in loving one another.

A Debut Feature Delving into Partnership Complexities

Together is the introductory feature for director Michael Shanks. It showcases the real-life married couple Dave Franco and Alison Brie as Tim and Millie, an unmarried couple that have remained a couple for ten years. Married in reality in 2017, the actors contribute a particular energy to their roles, masterfully depicting both the strengths and weaknesses of a long-term relationship.

The plot commences when Tim and Millie transition from the urban environment to the country for her career. A commonly used story element, sure, but that’s largely where the conventions cease. Together evolves into as much a psychological exploration of the couple's dynamic as it is a film about physical terror.

An Otherworldly Trigger

While hiking near their country house, a storm hits, and Millie and Tim fall into an hole in the earth. After spending the night there and managing to escape, a strange force begins influencing the duo. This force compels a supernatural closeness between them that goes exceeding simple connection.

The entire film is a methodically building fright fest, weaving in moments of fever-dream horrors, disturbing (but tastefully done) physical transformations, and genuinely funny dialogue (sometimes in the middle of something disturbing). Shanks weaves these elements together neatly and delivers them in a consistently growing sense of impending doom.

Complex Characterizations

A large part of Together is solely the performances of its stars, and they deftly portray countless layers to the dynamic between Tim and Millie. Millie’s confidence and emotional bond is waning due to a distance. Her underlying frustration of Tim for his unwillingness to chase only his failing musical ambitions slowly bubbles to the surface.

Conversely, Tim experiences isolation and isolated by Millie, who’s the cause they’ve moved to the country and distant from his support system. He fears the idea of utterly sacrificing his individual identity in another person. This fear is further exacerbated by the reality he lacks a driver's license and relies on Millie for mobility.

The film's most intelligent aspect in this movie never makes Tim or Millie the definite antagonist.

Both characters grapple with the type of challenges that are inherent in most partnerships after ten years. Deep down, they still love one another. They share moments of joy, offer support, and open up at times. But below this facade, there’s an unavoidable current of uncertainty about their future together.

Symbolism and Metaphor

While the supernatural forces in Together represent these anxieties of unhealthy attachment and fully committing to a partner, the metaphor avoids being clumsy or self-important. Instead, these visceral horror elements present a ideal counterpart to the relationship narrative. Both the horror and the drama serve the other symbiotically.

A Controversial Conclusion

Together’s ending, which won’t be spoiled here, has left audiences divided on the movie's final takeaway about codependent relationships. It has been said that those not in relationships have interpreted the film as a strong argument for remaining unattached. Meanwhile, some couples having disagreements found that the film ultimately assisted them resolve their issues.

If you are alone or with a partner, your own response could act as a telling indicator of how you think about commitment. Will the conclusion sow a sense of discomfort and fear, or a heartwarming sense of hope? Will you see yourself in Tim or Millie and scream at your TV, or simply turn to your other half and state, “I understand that choice”?

Regardless of the outcome, Together is an experiment you can embark on today.

Together is streaming on the streaming service Hulu as of this moment.
